A handmade ceramic mural based on one of the tapestries of 1495-1505 of „The Hunt of the Unicorn“ (also „Unicorn Tapestries“) series from the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Little is known of the history of these tapestries, which consist of seven panels depicting various scenes of different phases of the hunt. There is an assumption that the tapestries were ordered for the wedding of Anna of Breton and Louis XII.
The tapestries had been owned by the la Rochefoucauld family for several centuries, until year 1922, when they were acquired by J. Rockefeller, who donated them about 10 years later (in 1938, to be more exact) to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Our ceramic mural on wall depicts the very beginning of the hunt, when hunters just went out in search of a unicorn.
The mural is created in slab technique; the painting is made in majolica technique.
