This is a tiled fireplace with relief arabesque tiles painted in a complex warm pastel color scheme multicolored glazes.

An order for this arabesque tiled fireplace was placed for a famous Russian actress – the client wanted it to be gentle but vibrant in color, which is why we decided for shades of teal and violet, as well as warm oranges and pinks along with complex reds and lilacs for painting. We have used coiled corner elements of crème-brulee color to frame the decorative friezes with carpet ceramic tile filling. All in all the arabesque tiled fireplace turned out very warm, lively and harmonic.

Quite notable is the history behind these tiles. In 2006 a recreation of these tiles was commissioned to one of our atelier’s artists – Dmitry Kholevo. The tiles were for cladding historycal interiors in building 7 of Myasnitskaya street, 24.

Initially these reliefs were conceived by the artists of the Stroganov art school upon emperor Alexander II request, who intended to found an art and industry museum by the school. The museum was built by A. E. Weber and was integrated into Stroganov school apartment building. Until 1896 the museum was not it’s only purpose, since junior classes were also housed in the museum building.

In their essence these ornaments are a marvellous Russian Art Nouveau rework of Arabic ornamental motifs – because of this they are a perfect suit not just for interiors in Moorish and Arabic styles, but also for objects in Russian and neo-Russian styles as well.
