About Russian Majolica

Russian Majolica

Our ceramic atelier is an association of artists and ceramists many of whom are members of various professional societies and associations based on family craft businesses.

This is why our works are of authorship even when we rework famous historical objects of art or use our standard molds.

This is also why you can get exceptional art objects made for your home in one singular exemplar. Even when they are made using our standard molds, there’s always a unique component to them: low relief murals, carved ceramics, art murals or complex multilayered brilliant glazing.

Innovation and technology… Speeds of flight and impetuous surge of time… We make still but alive art which allows one to get closer to the great heritage of the ancestors, when art was high and served the purpose of elevating our daily spiritual life.

Even today we can return to this spiritual state of the aesthetics of the centuries long gone; surrounding ourselves with objects of Art Nouveau, we can transcend centuries by reaching out to the flawless and great Belle Epoque.

Shimmer of reactive glaze shining on the surfaces of our brilliant tiles – can there be anything more beautiful than that? Yes of course – the cosmos! Sunsets and sunrises, the heat of flames and the depths of the seas… Only ceramics can translate such highly expressive natural phenomena!

We have worked with the technology for many years, which is why in cooperation with the heat of our furnaces we create beautiful sights of our nature instilled in vitrics of our glazes!

Our brilliant tiles are completely handmade by our artists and glaziers. To make sure that the glazes and their effects acquire an especially powerful prominence of their striking splendor it is necessary to apply them in multiple layers with an optional, though sometimes necessary, intermediate firing.

Some glazes manifest their effects from the get go, others need additional layers to do so. All in all however, the more firings there are, the more excellent the effects are. The most important ingredient in the recipe of splendid tiles are people, more importantly artists who imagine and picture how the glazes would interact with one another to correctly apply them – proper layers properly ordered.

And of course the main part belongs to our kilns, whose fire sinters the glazes so unpredictably as to allow the effects to exhibit in all their sparks, flushes and shimmers so delightful to both eye and mind.
